With the losing streak over, New York City FC will play their last home match this weekend before they embark on their four-game road trip.  This will be a must-win fixture since the Pigeons will be away from home for most of July.  They might have won three away games this season, but the haunting of the road woes is always nearby, ready to scare the team into a loss.  Fans saw this against the LA Galaxy and Nashville SC.

So, NYCFC will have to do everything they can to beat CF Montréal.  The Canadian side currently sits in tenth place with a 5-8-7 record.  Additionally, the Queens’ team has not lost to them since 2021, dominating the matches since then.  The visitors also have a goal differential of -13.  With that in mind, this should end with all three points.  Anything less is unacceptable.

Meanwhile, the Pigeons received bad news that was expected.  They did not say that Malachi Jones will be out for the season, but one can expect that to be the case since he broke his right tibia and fibula.  The club officially confirmed his surgery but did not disclose his timetable to return.  This occurred from the nasty collision with Mason Stajduhar during the Orlando City SC win.

His loss will be felt, but there is still plenty of talent that can play on the wings.  Nick Cushing can mix it up with Hannes Wolf, Julián Fernández, Agustín Ojeda, and Santiago Rodríguez.  Of course, Talles Magno would be an option, but he is likely to depart the club this summer.  Nevertheless, there are many options, and the head coach will likely continue to rotate the players as he already was doing.  The difference is that Jones will not be a part of that rotation.
