NYCFC look to make an Impact against Montreal

New York City FC welcome Didier Drogba and the Montreal Impact to Yankee Stadium for a Wednesday night clash between the Eastern Conference rivals.

The two teams are going in completely different directions as the Impact are soaring in second place in the Eastern Conference. NYCFC are plummeting as they reside in last place and have not won a game since Opening Day in Chicago.

NYCFC’s lackluster defense will have to attempt to stop Drogba, Dominic Oduro, and Ignacio Piatti as these three players have been on fire this season. Yankee Stadium’s smaller dimensions may help the NYCFC defense limit counter attacks, but this will be a tough matchup nonetheless.

Montreal seem to have everything early on in the season as their offense has been firing on all cylinders as has their defense. Evan Bush has been a brick wall of sorts for the Impact and this could spell trouble for a struggling NYCFC attack. On the offensive side Drogba has comeback with a bang after missing the first seven games due to the turf used at the stadiums that the team visited.

Drogba looks like he is still at Chelsea as he has dominated throughout his brief MLS career. NYCFC can’t say the same for their fromer Chelsea man as Frank Lampard has been struggling to get going and stay on the field while in the sky blue uniform.

NYCFC will have to rely on club captain David Villa and Josh Saunders to keep the team in the match. The defense will have to do it’s best to bend, but not break against a formidable foe. NYCFC need a win to get out of the cellar of the East, but a battle against Montreal may be a struggle.
