NYCFC vs New England Revolution preview: The battle of the bottom of the table

New York City FC wanted to start their homestand with a win.  Instead, they only drew against Atlanta United FC, despite being the stronger team on the pitch.  The scoring struggles continued to plague the Pigeons.

This weekend, NYCFC will play against the New England Revolution.  This will be a battle of the bottom of the table, for the home team is in 13th place and the visitors sit in last place in the Eastern Conference.  The Revolution was in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, so that could have impacted their current standings.  However, nobody expected them to be where they are.

Hence, fans can expect a gritty battle.  Both teams will be fighting to get their second win.  NYCFC should expect a difficult match, especially since New England will be looking to bounce back after they exited the Champions Cup.  In fact, they were knocked out 9-2 on aggregate, so they will want to rebound after that embarrassment.  The Pigeons must be at the top of their game.  Oh, and they must score too.

It will be gloomy this weekend, so at the start of kickoff, it is not shocking it will be cloudy.  As of now, it will be around 51 degrees, but should not rain.

Injury report

Maxi Moralez (right knee) and Talles Magno (left knee) continue to be out with their injuries.  Jovan Mijatović continues to be out due to visa issues.

Players to watch

NYCFC supporters should watch James Sands.  The midfielder has returned to his normal self over the last few matches.  However, he needs to remain in his defensive midfielder position since he tends to lose the ball more when he moves up the pitch.  Plus, mistakes are more likely to be made.  So, will he stay in the area where he shines?  This is something to watch.

On New England, fans should watch Carles Gil.  The midfielder continues to be one of the best in the league despite his team’s struggles.  He has scored three goals, including the lone goal in their 1-0 win over Charlotte FC last week.  He is probably the biggest threat for the home side.

Prediction

To try and stay positive, it is predicted that NYCFC will win, 2-1.  The team can take advantage of New England’s current struggles and the congested schedule they had due to being in the Champions Cup.  Plus, they can be an offensive threat as seen in the Atlanta match.  This time, they will break through and score more than one goal.
