On Thursday, New York City FC finally released the first preseason roster for the 2024 season. Most of the contracted players are on the list. At the same time, the club gave out some vital information.

NYCFC has confirmed the preseason roster

To start with the obvious, NYCFC confirmed Maxi Moralez is still rehabbing in Argentina. The midfielder suffered an ACL injury in September. Therefore, it would be great news if he does return earlier than this summer. It makes sense that he does not join the team right away. The Pigeons did confirm he will return later this preseason.

Moreover, James Sands and Mitja Ilenič are not with the team at this time. Both players are with their respective national teams since the USMNT and Slovenia are playing one another in a friendly on Saturday.

The news fans were waiting for was who would be joining the rostered players in the preseason. NYCFC confirmed one Academy player, Adam Basse, and two NYCFC II players, Rio Hope-Gund and Jacob Arroyave, are with the first team. In addition, goalkeeper Will Meyer is a trialist. The club's two MLS SuperDraft picks, Taylor Calheira and Malachi Jones, are also with the team. Notably, the Bronx side has not yet signed them to a contract.

The biggest news from NYCFC confirmed the fate of three players: Thiago, Nicolás Acevedo, and Cody Mizell are all undergoing potential transfers. Subsequently, they did not travel with the team. This confirmed the rumors regarding Thiago and the questions about Acevedo's future. It was the news about Mizell that was not known to fans, so it is nice the club is being transparent.

Meanwhile, NYCFC is waiting on Hannes Wolf's visa. He has yet to join his new teammates but should jump right into training once he arrives. Ideally, the wait will be short and sweet.

Finally, the Pigeons revealed they will be playing another friendly. Next Wednesday, they will play against Barcelona S.C. in their first preseason game. As of today, this is the only international club the team will face.

New York City FC released plenty of information with their preseason roster release. It is good to see the team is being transparent and covering everyone.
