Checking in on the Gotham players after the second games of the World Cup
Brazil- Bruninha
Bruninha was on the bench for Brazil, but did not play in the second game. Unfortunately, the Gotham FC player's team lost to France, 2-1.
After two matches, Brazil is currently in third place in Group F with three points.
Ireland- Sinead Farrelly
Sinead Farrelly received her second start for Ireland in the World Cup, but the fixture did not go how her national team would have preferred. Despite an incredible goal directly from the corner flag by Katie McCabe, Farrelly's side lost to Canada, 2-1. The forward played 66 total minutes.
With the second game played, Ireland continues to be in last place in Group B, and has been eliminated from the World Cup. The team still has one fixture left in the group round.
Nigeria- Ifeoma Onumonu
Ifeoma Onumonu started again for Nigeria; she almost played the entire game before she was substituted off in the 90th minute. The Super Falcons shocked the host country, Australia, and won 3-2.
Nigeria is at the top of Group B with four points. They sit at the top based on goals scored.
USWNT- Kristie Mewis, Kelley O'Hara, and Lynn Williams
Neither Kristie Mewis, Kelley O'Hara, nor Lynn Williams played for the USWNT in the game against the Netherlands. The two national teams drew, 1-1. The US was highly criticized for the first-half performance and head coach, Vlatko Andonovski, was criticized for not making the necessary changes. Many questioned why Williams was not brought on.
The USWNT is at the top of Group E after the second game based on goal differential and has four points.
