New York City FC supporters are still on a winning high after the Pigeons dismantled Orlando City SC on Saturday. The Bronx side scored five goals to continue their unbeaten run to start the season. There is still the issue of the lack of a starting striker. However, the players looked pretty good in the 5-0 win, which is hopefully a promising sign that others are stepping up to find the back of the net.
While the team prepares for the next match against the Colorado Rapids, there are some things to cover surrounding the recent match. Hence, take a look at the next NYCFC news roundup.
Sky Scraper made its debut for NYCFC
One of NYCFC's newest members of the club, Sky Scraper, the pigeon mascot, made its debut for the club. Fans were able to witness the pigeon at the home opener, and Sky did not disappoint, showing up everywhere to cheer on the team. The Bronx native was fairly entertaining and clearly was not afraid to show off.
Finally, having a mascot is one of the greatest things that NYCFC has done for this season. Sky is a pigeon of the people, and hopefully, the mascot will become more involved with games and events.
NYCFC is in the MLS Team of the Matchday
Two NYCFC players made the MLS Team of the Matchday Starting XI for their performances against Orlando City: Maxi Moralez and Keaton Parks. A few other players could have easily made the list, even on the bench, but alas, just the two midfielders were given the honor of being named one of the best players from the weekend.
Moralez made the team since he was incredible throughout his time on the pitch. As always, he was the driver in the midfield and vital in moving the ball into the final third. But the 39-year-old impressed most statistically, with two assists and a goal. Sure, there was that huge miss early on in the match, when he sent the ball over the bar when he was right in front of the goal. But the midfielder was responsible for setting up two of the goals, and then he scored his own via a penalty kick.
Plus, Parks was also fantastic in his play. His footwork and ability to control the ball were missed when he was out due to injury, and his intelligence in possession means he is more likely than not to make smart passing decisions. But he received the honor of making the Team of the Matchday because of his five-minute brace in the second half. Parks scored twice to put the nail in the coffin on Orlando's night.
NYCFC trolled Orlando City
It is unknown who is behind the social media accounts of NYCFC, but over the past few years, the posts have been amazing and sometimes comical. After the win against Orlando, the team's accounts posted images and posts that truly trolled Orlando.
The team made fun of Maxime Crépeau and how the goalkeeper carried the ball outside of the box, using the caption "New Florida man challenge just dropped." NYCFC also reposted the post of Orlando making fun of the Pigeons playing in a baseball stadium, saying, "They never learn."
It is all fun and games in the end, and NYCFC had every right to troll Orlando.
