Needing a win to qualify to the quarterfinals, thanks to Pirlo, Italy grabbed the three points in a 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland. Like said before, Pirlo was never known to be a scoring threat, but played a major role in setting up the goal.
As an NYCFC supporter, you’ve definitely seen Pirlo’s dangerous cross, especially this year. In this particular case, Pirlo whipped in an amazing ball towards Cassano who then buried the ball in the back of the net.
Pirlo’s set up was the real story behind the goal and this gave his nation a comfortable one goal lead. Italy would eventually grab it’s second goal in the late minutes thanks to Mario Balotelli. Italy squeaked through the group as runners-up and went on to face England.
