Some wishes for Gotham FC in 2024

The 2024 season is about a month away, and NJ/NY Gotham FC will look to defend their 2023 NWSL Championship. This time around, they will aim to compete to be one of the best teams in the league, for they still finished sixth in the table.

The club was already turning into a competitive team. But now, with the additions of players and USWNT stars like Crystal Dunn and Tierna Davidson, the team can become one that others fear. On paper, the roster is looking very promising.

Nothing is ever set in stone. The ladies will have to prove themselves on the pitch, for it does not matter which stars are signed. Therefore, there are some wishes one can make in the 2024 season.

Here are some of the wishes for Gotham FC.

Wishes for Gotham FC

1. The first wish is the easiest to make. The wish is for Gotham FC to win the NWSL Championship again. This year, the playoffs will expand to eight teams. There will be no bye either. Regardless of where the Bats finish, they would have to play three matches. They did in 2023, so it should not be an issue. Still, it is difficult for teams in any sport to win back-to-back championships. If the ladies can pull it off again, then that will be incredible.

2. The second wish is for Gotham to win the NWSL Shield. This would mean the NJ/NY team would finish in first place at the end of the regular season. Truthfully, without the fumble toward the end of the 2023 campaign, the ladies could have possibly ended the year in first. With the new players in hand, it seems possible to win the Shield.

3. Another wish is for Lynn Williams to win the Golden Boot. She was well on her way after the first half of the season, but she lost her goal-scoring boots after returning from the USWNT and the World Cup. Ideally, she will resume her scoring ways at the start of the new season.

4. This wish makes sense, but it is for the new signings, especially the USWNT players, to play to their expected level. As many know, when a player moves to a new club, sometimes it can take time to adjust. Additionally, they can not play to the high level they are expected to play. Reasons can range from the inability to play under the pressure of their new club to the fact they are not clicking with the new team. Hopefully, the transition will be smooth, and everyone will play at the top level.

5. The final wish is for Gotham FC to have a clean bill of health in 2024. The team suffered many injuries in 2023. Therefore, it would be nice if everyone remained healthy. Of course, that is an unlikely scenario for a group of athletes. At the minimum, it would be great for no one to be injured when they are out for a long period.
