NYCFC vs New York Red Bulls: How to watch, time, more of critical Hudson River Derby
- NYCFC and the New York Red Bulls will battle it out in the Hudson River Derby
- Here is how to watch the match and more information
Last week, New York City FC had over 44,000 people at Yankee Stadium as the Bronx team faced Inter Miami CF. The top team in Major League Soccer is likely to win the Supporters’ Shield, but the Pigeons managed to limit their play. As a result, the match ended in a draw thanks to James Sands’ last-minute goal to secure a point.
While the end was exciting, that does not eliminate the fact that NYCFC is in the middle of a nine-game winless streak, with the last MLS win coming back on July 3. It has been a long time, so the team and fans are desperate for a win. The strong defense from the Miami fixture is needed, but more goals must be scored too in their next match. Of course, NYCFC will have to fight for all three points in New Jersey as they will take on the New York Red Bulls.
Three points in the standings separate RBNY and NYCFC, but the red team sits in fourth place while the blue and real New York team is in seventh. At this rate, all the teams sitting in fourth to seventh are fighting for that fourth-place spot. That would guarantee home-field advantage in the first round. It will not be shocking if fourth through seventh are decided on Decision Day next month.
Meanwhile, the pressure will again be at the highest at Red Bull Arena. Nick Cushing is under fire again, and a loss in the derby should enhance the calls for his firing. While NYCFC did draw last weekend, the late goal made it feel like a win and it was against a top team in the league. This time, anything less than a win will feel like a failure.

Final Notes
Santiago Rodríguez and Strahinja Tanasijević are suspended for the Hudson River Debry due to yellow card accumulation. Thankfully, Birk Risa is back and will hopefully start this weekend. If anything, Tayvon Gray or Justin Haak could slide into the center-back role. Sands will definitely be needed in the midfield. At least Cushing has options for who he can start as the left-winger.
