It took four games, but New York City FC has finally won their first match of 2024. They beat Toronto FC at home last weekend, earning the first three points of the season. It was the unlikely hero Kevin O’Toole who scored the game-winner after a header into the back of the net. It was the left-back’s first goal in Major League Soccer.
The win might have boosted the overall mood of the fan base, but the negative atmosphere around NYCFC is still vast. The main reason why is that they are heading back on the road this weekend. The Pigeons will face the 2023 Supporters’ Shield Winners, FC Cincinnati, who currently sits in third place with eight points.
Moreover, NYCFC will be without multiple players due to international duty. This includes both of their strikers and both of their main right-backs. As such, Nick Cushing will have to play around with the Starting XI. He will have to determine the best roster possible, which will be a difficult task to achieve. At the same time, the idea that Cincinnati will be an uphill battle existed regardless of who would be available. The road woes consistently haunt the Boys in Blue, making it difficult to see a positive outcome.
Still, there is always a chance for a shocking result. The win from last week can boost the confidence of the whole team. NYCFC supporters never know what will happen.
