After a fun international break for some of the New York City FC players, the Pigeons will resume Major League Soccer play with the hope that they will win their sixth-straight game.  Fans last saw the team demolish the San Jose Earthquakes in a 5-1 win.  Alonso Martínez was the hero after he came off the bench and scored a hat trick, ensuring his team would end up with three points.

However, the upcoming game will be a difficult one.  NYCFC will welcome the Columbus Crew to Yankee Stadium.  The Ohio team has a 6-2-6 record and currently sits in seventh place in the Eastern Conference.  One can assume their run in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, which saw them lose in the finals, is partially why they are in the middle of the table.

Meanwhile, the Crew still has only lost twice in the MLS season.  They will likely enter this fixture hungry for a win after their disappointing loss in the Champions Cup.  That is why NYCFC must do everything they can to stop players like Cucho Hernández and Diego Rossi.

Thankfully, Kevin O’Toole was back in training after picking up a hamstring injury against San Jose.  Thiago Martins is likely to be determined for whether he will be available.  Nonetheless, the Boys in Blue will need to work together to protect their goal.  Columbus might be scoring less at this time, but it would not be shocking to see them go on a run with a focus on the regular season.  The Crew is a challenging team, so NYCFC must be ready to defend.
