New York City FC will continue the road stretch when they travel to Illinois to take on Chicago Fire FC.  Of all the matches away from home, this is one that the Pigeons should come out on top and victorious.  Of course, soccer can be a cruel game where the expected results do not always occur.

However, the Fire is in 13th place in the Eastern Conference with 21 points. The team, which for some reason cannot figure out how to be successful again, tends to do poorly most years.  NYCFC also dominates the series, for they are 11-3-6 against Chicago.  The Pigeons have gone 3-0-1 over the previous two seasons as well.  Since they are in fifth place, there is no question that, on paper, the Boys in Blue should leave with a point or three.  Again, this is their best shot at a victory during the road stretch, so three points are preferred.

Despite their recent loss to Austin FC, there is some hopeful news about the matchup in the Windy City after some injury concerns.  During the pregame press conference, Nick Cushing revealed that Birk Risa and Christian McFarlane are both fit and training.  Based on the work of Tayvon Gray and Kevin O’Toole, they could be a possibility.  The head coach only implied as such, not making guarantees for the fullbacks.  The same goes for Maxi Moralez.

Hopefully, having Risa back with Thiago Martins will help solidify the defense.  They must prevent players who have not been scoring from finding the back of the net.  At the same time, the Pigeons need to score more goals again.  Alonso Martínez should start, but Cushing should bring on Jovan Mijatović over Mounsef Bakrar as a substitute.

Final Notes

The pressure on NYCFC is immense since the Bronx side is in the middle of the four-game road trip.  They are most likely to win against the Fire, so they need to finish the night with all three points.
