New York City FC has a short turnaround when they face Atlanta United FC in a midweek battle.  Unfortunately, they left Chicago with a point after failing to score against Chicago Fire FC.  That fixture was one they should have won, and it was the best chance to do so during the four-match road trip.

Now, they have to face Atlanta United away from home.  The Georgian team might be in 11th place, but winning in their home stadium is a challenge.  They have one of the best fan bases in Major League Soccer and tend to have high attendance numbers.  They act as the 12th player, making life difficult for visiting teams.  Moreover, NYCFC only has one away win against Atlanta.  The idea of leaving with all three points is not promising.

A draw is the more likely outcome, for the teams have seven from 16 fixtures played.  The other nine are divided where the Pigeons have five wins and the Five Stripes have four.  The last three matches have ended in draws, including the game in April.  Santiago Rodríguez scored from the penalty kick spot, but the Bronx side failed to capitalize on their opportunities.  They played well, but it was a disappointing draw.

So, can NYCFC do what nobody expects them to do?  Can they go to Atlanta and win?  It is unlikely, but one never knows.  It is a hard idea to support due to the Pigeons' recent injury struggles.  Andrés Perea left the Chicago game early on and James Sands will miss this fixture due to yellow card accumulation.  If there are no changes to the weekend’s injury report, then NYCFC will be short-staffed with the new additions. There is hope that a few players will be back based on Nick Cushing's press conference.
