NYCFC: 3 predictions for the 2024 season

2. Julián Fernández will become a star

There is a belief here at Skyscraper Blues that Julián Fernández can turn into a star for NYCFC and in MLS.  The winger is entering his first full season with the club and has already shown some of his potential.  Hence, it is predicted he will become a star in 2024.  

After Fernández joined the Pigeons over the summer, he made nine regular-season appearances, including two starts.  Every time he came on as a substitute, he improved the right side of the pitch.  He increased the offensive threat by getting the ball into the box and because of himself.  It was a little surprising he did not earn more starts.  Understandably, he was adjusting to the new team and league.

In those nine appearances, he scored twice.  This included a goal on the final day of the season.  Additionally, NYCFC played a friendly match against Inter Miami CF amid the playoffs.  Fernández scored what would end up as the winning goal for the Pigeons. 

His youth, potential, and ability as a winger are a reminder of Gabriel Pereira.  The Brazilian turned into the team’s best player before moving over the summer.  It was a shocking move to Qatar, but when all is said and done, money makes the world go around.  Nonetheless, Fernández is already eliminating the hole left by Pereira’s departure.  As long as Cushing allows him to start, he could easily become one of the best wingers in MLS.

Furthermore, his personality with his talent can turn him into a star.  From interviews and watching him play, the Argentine appears to be someone who is kind and fun.  Fans still have to see more of him as a person, but he can turn into a fan favorite as the 2024 season progresses.  NYCFC is extremely lucky he is a part of the club.
