The World Cup continues to bring drama and entertainment as the tournament is in the Round of 16. NJ/NY Gotham FC still had four players left; Bruninha's Brazil and Sinead Farrelly's Ireland were eliminated in the group round.

Now that the United States Women's National Team and Nigeria have completed their matches, it is time to check in on the Gotham players.

Checking in on the Gotham FC players after the Round of 16

Nigeria- Ifeoma Onumonu

Ifeoma Onumonu started the game for Nigeria and played 58 minutes. Neither the Super Falcons nor England could find the back of the net, for the fixture finished in a 0-0 draw.

As a result, the match went into a penalty kick shootout. In the end, Nigeria lost on penalty kicks, 4-2.

Therefore, Nigeria was knocked out of the World Cup. They were unable to score, and could not overtake England in extra time despite the fact the English side was down to ten women thanks to a late red card in the second half. Plus, the four-save night from goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, could not help Nigeria into the next round.

USWNT- Kristie Mewis, Kelley O'Hara, and Lynn Williams

Kristie Mewis, Kelley O'Hara, and Lynn Williams all appeared for the USWNT in the fixture against Sweden. Williams was substituted on in the 66th minute, while Mewis and O'Hara came on at the end of extra time.

Unfortunately, like Nigeria, the game went into a penalty kick shootout after a 0-0 draw, and the US was on the losing end. The team lost 5-4 on penalties. Mewis converted hers, but O'Hara failed to put the ball into the back of the net. For an unknown reason, Williams did not take a penalty kick.

As such, the USWNT was knocked out of the World Cup in the Round of 16. This is the earliest they have ever been eliminated. Although expected based on their play in the group round, it did not hurt any less, for the fixture against Sweden was their best performance in the tournament. Of course, the only thing missing was the goals.

What is next for the Gotham FC players?

Since Nigeria and the USWNT were knocked out of the World Cup, there are no Gotham FC players remaining.
