Gotham FC vs Kansas City Current: How to watch, time, and more of NWSL home opener

After a solid international window for some of the NJ/NY Gotham FC players, the ladies will resume NWSL play as they welcome the Kansas City Current for the home opener.  The Bats are coming off a loss against the North Carolina Courage.  Not only will they want to rebound after the loss, but they will want to win the first home match of the regular season.  Plus, their first match in the NWSL Challenge Cup ended in a loss, so they will want to earn the first win of the season at Red Bull Arena.

Gotham FC is 1-1-0 so far, so it is a respectable record.  After starting the season on the road, securing one win out of two games is a great way to start the campaign.  There is an early concern with the goal-scoring, but after this month, supporters should get a better feel about the NJ/NY side and how the roster is performing on the pitch.

It will also be interesting to see whether Rose Lavelle and Lynn Williams will make their returns.  The two returned from the W Gold Cup with slight injuries, and have not made an appearance yet in the 2024 season.

Moreover, fans, if they can, should attend the fixture in person.  Gotham FC will celebrate their NWSL Championship, in which they will unveil the banner and have the ring ceremony.  Plus, Ali Krieger will make her return.  In addition, Eli Manning will participate in the lighting of the torch.  The former New York Giants player and minority owner of Gotham even tried to convince Patrick Mahomes to come out to the match, for the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is a co-owner of the visitors.

Gotham FC’s NWSL home opener will celebrate the 2023 Championship.  This will be the first time such a celebration will occur at the Red Bull Arena, for the Major League Soccer team there has never won the MLS Cup.
