On Sunday, NJ/NY Gotham FC will host the Kansas City Current in their 2024 NWSL Home Opener. This will be a night of celebration as the club will celebrate the 2023 championship. The banner will be unveiled and the ring ceremony will now take place at the end of the game.
In addition, there was hope that Rose Lavelle would finally make her debut. The midfielder has yet to appear due to an injury she had at the start of the season. It was expected it would not be long-term though. Sadly, fans will have to wait at least another home game, for she will be out this weekend.
Meanwhile, the pressure will be on Gotham FC to earn all three points. The roster is supposed to be one of the best in the NWSL, so another loss at home after losing to the San Diego Wave in the Challenge Cup would not be a good look. Hopefully, the pressure will not get to the ladies and rather lead them to greatness.

Midge Purce (knee) is out for the year. McCall Zerboni (knee), Abby Smith (lower leg), and Taylor Smith (thigh) are on the season-ending injury list at this time.
Kristen Edmonds (knee), Sinead Farrelly (thigh), Svava Guðmundsdóttir (excused absence) Rose Lavelle (lower leg), and Kelley O’Hara (knee) are all out for Sunday. Lynn Williams (thigh) is questionable.
Players to watch
Gotham FC fans should watch Tierna Davidson. The center-back has done well in her first three matches with the club and is already one of the captains. Her solid performances with the Bats have led her to more starts with the USWNT. It will be interesting to see how the young leader leads the backline against a tough KC Current team.
With Kansas City, fans should pay attention to not just one player, but everyone. Three games into their season, the Current has nine different goal scorers from 11 goals. Their offensive threat has been scary thus far, so the Gotham defense must be at the top of their game.
Prediction
The night is going to be a wonderful night full of celebration. While the Current is a strong side this year, it is predicted Gotham FC will win 2-0. Cassie Miller will earn a clean sheet while there will be two new goal-scorers for the 2024 season.
