During the week, NJ/NY Gotham FC played against Frazsiers Whip Football Limited in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup. The NWSL side was expected to play extremely well, but nobody thought they would obliterate the semiprofessional team, let alone score 13 times. This was a brilliant game for a team that struggles in the goal-scoring department, especially in the NWSL.
Ideally, these 13 goals will spark the Bats to score more than two goals a game for the rest of the regular season. Gotham FC is talented and can compete in the playoffs, but with the attacking players they have, they should be scoring more. They have never scored more than two goals per match in the NWSL in 2024. Luckily, they have a home game this weekend when Bay FC comes to town. The supporters’ help from the stands should aid the home side in winning and scoring multiple goals, preferably three.
At the same time, Bay FC has been on a little bit of a surge. The California side has moved themselves into a playoff spot despite struggling throughout most of the season. Since the NWSL pause, the team is 3-2-1 and in eighth place. The last time the Bats faced them, they were in eleventh and going through the expansion team struggles.
Therefore, Gotham FC has to be careful with Bay FC. This is not a guaranteed win. At the same time, the visitors have beaten teams that the Bats have beaten, including Seattle Reign FC. Plus, if the ladies utilize the 13-0 win from Wednesday, then perhaps they can go on a goal-scoring frenzy where they score three or four goals. Yes, Bay FC is a completely different team from the semiprofessional side they faced, but the numerous goals can still act as a boost.

Final Notes
Lynn Williams came on as a substitute in the Champions Cup match and scored a hat trick in a little over ten minutes. The winger should start on Saturday against Bay FC in the hope she finds her goal-scoring boots in the NWSL again. She last scored back in May in the NWSL and Wednesday’s goals were her first for Gotham FC since then as well.
