With the signings thus far for 2024, NJ/NY Gotham FC is creating a threatening team that should be able to compete for not just the NWSL Championship but the Shield too. They have already signed stars like Tierna Davidson and Rose Lavelle. There are still signings to be made.

Thankfully, Gotham FC continued to build for 2024. On Monday, the club announced they signed former Chicago Red Stars player Ella Stevens. The forward joins the Bats on a contract for the next two years, with an option for 2026.

Gotham FC signing Ella Stevens enhances the attack and adds depth

Stevens joins Gotham FC after a solid year with the Red Stars. She started 16 of the 22 regular season matches she played in. Moreover, she led her team in the goal-scoring department with four goals. Chicago finished the season in last place.

In Gotham's case, they already have a strong attack. Since Stevens has mostly played as a striker, she was likely added as a depth piece. Fans should expect Esther González to start most of the games up front and center. Delanie Sheehan, Katie Stengel, and Lynn Williams can also play as the striker, but Williams will predominantly play on the wings.

Nonetheless, Stevens' signing enhances the final third and adds an option to the attack. It increases the threat from up top as well. The endless options can help the club as they try to become the best in the NWSL. One never knows when someone will become injured or go through a slump.

As of today, the Bats have solidified the striker position. They have many options, and Stevens is one more player in the mix. The Front Office should be relaxed in that regard. Moreover, the signing makes NJ/NY Gotham FC even more threatening than before. Their final third will be a fearsome group in 2024.
