NJ/NY Gotham FC has just begun their preseason and recently released their preseason roster. Two notable names included Michelle Betos and McCall Zerboni. The free agents were listed as Non-Roster Invitees. It was expected that Betos would be a part of the squad in 2024, but Zerboni was questionable.
Gotham FC announced the return of veterans
Rather than make fans wait, Gotham FC confirmed on Wednesday that they are bringing back the two veterans. Additionally, the Bats mentioned how they also re-signed Sinead Farrelly. This was interesting since the club already picked up her option during the end-of-the-season roster decisions.
All three players are signed on through the end of the current season, while Betos and Zerboni have options for the following year. None of them are expected to be starters this season, but Zerboni and Farrelly should see time on the pitch. Betos will battle it out with Cassie Miller for the backup role.
Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West is pleased to have all three players back. "We are incredibly happy to have these veterans choose to return to the club," she told GothamFC.com. "Having players with their experience allows us to continue to build on our culture at the club."
Meanwhile, Zerboni's return is questionable. She suffered an ACL injury back in August, so, likely, she will not be ready for the start of the upcoming season.
Nonetheless, the three players solidify the depth available throughout the season. Gotham might have won the NWSL Championship in 2023, but the roster for 2024 has turned the team into a powerhouse. The ladies must perform, for a strong roster means nothing without the wins.
At this time, it appears NJ/NY Gotham FC is done, or close to it, with building the roster for 2024. Again, Farrelly's return was already known, so the addition of Betos and Zerboni is welcoming.
