After a busy September, NJ/NY Gotham FC will have another busy month in October. As the season gets closer to the end, this will be a critical time for the Bats, especially in the NWSL. They want to finish as high as possible in the standings. They went 3-1-1 in the league in September, with the lone loss against the incredible Orlando Pride. In total, they went 3-1-2 in all competitions.
In October, Gotham FC will play six matches, including the final home game of the NWSL regular season. Three are NWSL fixtures, two are in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup, and one will be the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup final.
So, can Gotham FC manage another busy month and achieve success? Here is a look at the upcoming schedule for October.
Gotham FC's October 2024 schedule
Wednesday, October 2: Gotham FC vs Frazsiers Whip Football Limited
Gotham FC will continue their CONCACAF W Champions Cup journey when they take on Frazsiers Whip Football Limited in Jamaica. The Bats are expected to win this game since the opposition has lost all three of their Cup fixtures, but nothing is ever given. Thankfully, the depth of the squad allows for plenty of rotation. Juan Carlos Amorós will likely be successful regardless of who starts and plays.
Saturday, October 5: Gotham FC vs Bay FC
Despite being in their first season, Bay FC has suddenly put themselves in contention for the playoffs. The team has gone 3-2-1 since the NWSL resumed and sits in eighth place. Since this will be the third game in eight days by the time Gotham FC plays the California team, there is a chance exhaustion could impact the NJ/NY side. However, this will be the second-to-last home game of the regular season, and the ladies will want to end with all three points. They will have to be careful though, for players like Asisat Oshoala and Abby Dahlkemper can make life difficult for the home team.
Saturday, October 12: Gotham FC vs Chicago Red Stars
When Gotham FC last faced the Chicago Red Stars, they beat them in a penalty kick shootout in the Summer Cup. They also won the earlier NWSL fixture at Red Bull Arena. Chicago is in a playoff spot in sixth place and has had an up-and-down season. They are 9-11-2 but 2-4-0 since the summer tournament. Still, the Bats will have a difficult challenge ahead of them on the road. Mallory Swanson and Ally Schlegel will be threatening in the attack, so the defense has to be at the top of their game.
Wednesday, October 16: Gotham FC vs Tigres UANL Femenil
The Bats will play their final group round fixture of the CONCACAF W Champions Cup against Tigres UANL Femenil. The team is currently undefeated in Liga MX Femenil and is expected to be one of the top two finishers in the group for the Champions Cup. The question at hand is who will finish first: will it be Gotham or Tigres? This match very well could be the battle to decide that. Plus, this will likely be the most difficult match in the tournament. The team will need as many fans as possible at Red Bull Arena.
Sunday, October 20: Gotham FC vs Orlando Pride
The final home game will see the league leaders Orlando Pride come to New Jersey. Gotham FC lost 2-0 to the Florida side after the ladies in purple broke down their defense. This time around, the Bats must do everything they can to keep Orlando from scoring. In addition, the NJ/NY team will try to break the unbeaten streak if nobody has beaten the Pride at this time. Like the Tigres game, Gotham will need as many supporters as possible to cheer them on.
Friday, October 25: Gotham FC vs Kansas City Current
Gotham FC will finish the month during the international break. As such, they will likely be without some players in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup final against the Kansas City Current. The Bats will aim to win the first trophy of the year, but this match could go either way. The teams shared the points in the NWSL in both fixtures this year. As such, this will be a great watch for Gotham fans and the neutrals.
