Breaking down the September 2024 schedule for Gotham FC
- Here is a look at Gotham FC's September 2024 schedule
NJ/NY Gotham FC has had a pretty good August. Some of the ladies became Olympic medalists after the USWNT won gold and Germany won bronze. Then, those who were still with the team during the Olympic pause beat Angel City FC in the semifinals to book a place in the finals of the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup.
With August dying down, Gotham FC has a busy September schedule to look forward to. They will play a mix of NWSL and CONCACAF W Champions Cup games, playing seven matches. Juan Carlos Amorós will have to rotate his squad heavily out of necessity. Hopefully, the month does not exhaust the players where they struggle down the road.
This will be extremely busy, but it is vital Gotham FC continues to play well, especially in the NWSL. Here is a look at the September schedule.
Gotham FC's September 2024 schedule
Sunday, September 1: Gotham FC vs Orlando Pride
Gotham FC will begin September on the road against one of the most difficult teams in the NWSL: the Orlando Pride. The Florida team has yet to lose in league play and sits in first place at this time. It is not shocking since they have big-name players like Marta and Barbra Banda. Banda also has the second most goals in the NWSL, with 12. This is a match the Bats will need everyone. Otherwise, things can go downhill very quickly.
Thursday, September 5: Gotham FC vs Liga Deportiva Alajuelense Femenil
After Orlando, the Bats must travel to Costa Rica to take on Liga Deportiva Alajuelense Femenil in their first game of the CONCACAF W Champions Cup. Alajuelense is one of the best teams in Costa Rica and has finished first in the Apertura and Clausura most of the seasons since they began play in 2019. This will be a good challenge for the NWSL team.
Sunday, September 8: Gotham FC vs Houston Dash
Gotham FC will return home and play the Houston Dash for the second time this season. The Texan side sits in 13th place and has been struggling significantly. The Bats already beat the Dash earlier in the season. Truthfully, they should win again and secure the season sweep. Of course, Gotham will have to put the ball past Houston's talented goalkeeper, Jane Campbell. They need to score and end this fixture with all three points.
Monday, September 16: Gotham FC vs Seattle Reign FC
Seattle Reign FC is another team Gotham FC should beat and leave with all three points. However, the Reign shocked those at Red Bull Arena when they scored a late equalizer in June to take home a point. The NJ/NY side cannot make the same mistake again. Although, Seattle is unbeaten in their last five matches, where four of the five ended in draws. Are they finally starting to put the pieces together? This could be a dangerous road game.
Thursday, September 19: Gotham FC vs C.F. Monterrey Femenil
The next W Champions Cup fixture will be at home against C.F. Monterrey Femenil. The Mexican team currently sits in second place in Liga MX Femenil, winning all of their games thus far. They have some threatening goal-scorers, like Christina Burkenroad, so Gotham must be at the top of their game defensively.
Sunday, September 22: Gotham FC vs Utah Royals
The last place Utah Royals will come to New Jersey as they face Gotham FC for the first time. While the Bats are playing three of the bottom-of-the-table teams this month, Utah is one on paper they should beat. Sure, they should win the other matches, but this is the one fixture that would be a major failure if they dropped points. Right now, Utah has 12 points and has been held scoreless in numerous matches. Gotham will also see a familiar face in Royals goalkeeper Mandy Haught. The former Bat truly stepped up when Abby Smith went down with her leg injury. She will probably receive a warm welcome home.
Saturday, September 28: Gotham FC vs Kansas City Current
Like the beginning of September, Gotham FC will end the month on the road against one of the top teams in the NWSL. They will face the Kansas City Current, who have one less loss than the Bats at the time this is written. The teams last met in April, when they played to a 1-1 draw. The NWSL leading scorer Temwa Chawinga scored the Current's goal, and she will be a challenge for the backline. This will be an interesting game to watch.
