New York City FC has been on a roll as of late. They are unbeaten in their last five games and have won their last three. They are also about to finish their five-game homestand as they play their last match this weekend.

There are still concerns as they head into a new month. How will NYCFC do on the road? Can they compete with some of the top teams? Fans saw they competed in their 1-1 draw with Inter Miami CF away from home and the 2-1 win against Toronto FC at home earlier in the season. However, their recent homestand draw and wins are all teams that are in ninth place or below at this time.

Can NYCFC continue their better performances in May? Here is a look at next month's busy schedule, where they will play six matches.

The NYCFC schedule for May 2024

Sunday, May 5: NYCFC vs Colorado Rapids

NYCFC will welcome the Colorado Rapids on a rare Sunday to finish their five-game homestand and begin the six-game schedule of May. The Pigeons are winless against Western Conference teams in 2024, so will they be able to continue their winning streak and reverse their misfortunes? The Rapids are in sixth place with a 4-3-3 record, so they will face the Queens team who is also in sixth place with a 4-4-2 record. NYCFC must play similarly to how they played against D.C. United to get the fourth win in a row.

Saturday, May 11: NYCFC at Toronto FC

After the homestand, NYCFC's first match on the road will be at Toronto FC. Since the Pigeons' win earlier this year, the Reds have gone 3-3-0. They have only scored a maximum of two goals in a Major League Soccer fixture. Their striker Prince Owusu has been on fire as of late, for he has scored four goals in the last three MLS games. NYCFC could earn a point or more if they stop the German player.

Wednesday, May 15: NYCFC at Philadelphia Union

The most difficult game of May will be against the Philadelphia Union. The team is currently in seventh place but NYCFC has not beaten them since the 2021 playoffs. They have lost the last five fixtures in all competitions. Therefore, it will be a challenge to turn things around, especially because the road is a dark place for the Bronx side.

Saturday, May 18: NYCFC vs New York Red Bulls

The first Hudson River Derby will be here before NYCFC knows it. They will host the New York Red Bulls at Citi Field, where the Boys in Blue will try to ensure that New York is blue. At this time, the red team is 4-1-5 with 17 points. As such, they are having a solid season thus far. This derby will be one of the more challenging ones. Moreover, it will be interesting to see where NYCFC will be in the standings at this time. If they can somehow win at Toronto or Philadelphia, then they could easily come into the derby boosting with confidence.

Saturday, May 25: NYCFC at New England Revolution

If there is one game NYCFC can win on the road, then it is against the last-place New England Revolution. The usually talented team continues to struggle in 2024, and the Pigeons have already beaten them. They know what to expect. However, they cannot be overconfident, for again, the road has not been kind. Unless New England completely does a 180, this might be an evening away from home that ends with three points.

Friday May 31: NYCFC vs San Jose Earthquakes

The final game of May will take place at Yankee Stadium when NYCFC welcomes the San Jose Earthquakes. The California team, as of now, is in last place in the Western Conference. This could be a match where NYCFC takes control early on and easily cruises into victory. Although, the Pigeons must be cautious, for San Jose has had two 4-3 losses in the past month. In other words, the team can score goals, and plenty of them, in a match. The most the Bronx side has scored in one game is two, so ideally by this match, they will manage to score more.
