On Friday, New York City FC announced that Andres Jasson is leaving the club. The winger is joining AaB Fodbold, otherwise known as Aalborg BK. The Danish team is in the Danish 1st Division, which is the second tier of football in the country.

NYCFC did not confirm whether the forward's contract was terminated or sold to the new team. His contract was due to expire at the end of the year. Nonetheless, it was a little shocking to hear, especially after he started quite a few games to end last season. However, his playing time has been limited in 2024, likely due to the winger congestion. In the regular season, Jasson had only made three appearances.

Since 2020, the American has made 59 regular season appearances and 69 overall with NYCFC. He also played a few matches with the MLS Next Pro team. He had some great moments with the club, especially in 2023. Who can forget when he finally scored his first goal in July and then scored three more during the rest of the season? He had some solid games, including the match against Toronto FC toward the end of the season. He made the Team of the Matchday 34 and was widely praised.

Andres Jasson understandably leaves NYCFC

Jasson expressed his love for NYCFC to newyorkcityfc.com. "Having come through the academy, the friends and memories I have collected along the way is something that I will take with me," he told the website. "I’m excited for this next step in my career and will bring all the experiences I have gained thus far with me to Aalborg BK. I want to thank all the New York City fans for their unconditional support over the years. As I leave the club I’ll be watching and supporting from a distance as a fan."

It will be sad to not see Jasson on the roster. He was well liked by the fans and could always contribute on the pitch. Mainly, he was known for his ability to win free kicks by getting himself fouled. Again, he grew so much as a player last season, so it was surprising to see him barely play in 2024.

It was a little shocking as well since there were no rumors regarding his departure. Truthfully, his departure prior to the season's end was unexpected. Yet, it is understandable. Jasson will get a chance to experience the beautiful game in Europe. At the same time, he will hopefully earn more playing time where he can grow as a player.

Plus, it appears Hannes Wolf mostly has one of the winger spots locked down, leading to the rotation of the other. Supporters wanted to see the forward play, but there were too many players in front of him.

It would not be shocking if another Homegrown player who barely plays departs the club this summer. It is not expected many NYCFC players will leave, but Jasson will not be the only one to say goodbye.
