For the last few years, Andres Jasson has been a quiet and loud part of New York City FC. He was quiet since he did not have much playing time. He was not seen as a starter. Some did not see him as a vital member of the club. He was loud though, because when he was on the pitch, he was notorious for earning foul calls.

This year, especially in the second half of the season, Jasson has turned into a brand-new player. The 21-year-old scored his first goal on July 15 in a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Union. Since then, he has tallied three more goals in all competitions. Of his four, three were scored in Major League Soccer, and one was during the 5-0 thrashing of Toronto FC in the Leagues Cup.

Jasson is also playing superbly better this season. The winger's speed allows him to move swiftly up the pitch into the attacking third. He can get crosses into the box. He has improved tremendously with picking out his teammates. Although, he only has one assist thus far.

Still, the biggest improvement is that Jasson has become an attacking threat with NYCFC. In MLS, he has 16 shots with five on target. In 2021 and 2022, he had five shots each year. So far, he has played fewer minutes compared to his high of 676 in 2021. In 2023, he has played 649 minutes.

His development into a solid winger had earned him some starts of late. In this past weekend's game against Toronto FC, Jasson scored his fourth goal of the season. He had three shots on the night thanks to his ability to maneuver around Toronto defenders. He was able to pick out teammates too and provide accurate passes.

Therefore, it was not surprising when he was named to the Team of the Matchday for Matchday 34. Jasson had one of his best matches of the season. His goal was also a fantastic one. When the ball fell to his feet, he stayed composed and controlled it. With a turn, he shot the ball into the goal, grazing the net as it went in.

It was a deserving honor for the young player as well. He has been working hard, and his growth has been seen on the pitch as the season progressed.

Jasson can turn into a dark horse player in 2024. If he continues to develop as he has this season, then New York City FC will have a reliable winger that can be called upon.
