Ten years ago today, New York City FC welcomed the New England Revolution to Yankee Stadium. It was the first time anyone in Major League Soccer played the Boys in Blue in the baseball stadium and was also the team’s first-ever home opener. The team won 2-0 that day, so they will look to celebrate the tenth anniversary in style by winning again.
To do that, they will have to beat the Revolution, whom NYCFC has not lost to since September 2022. The Pigeons have also won a game in the young 2025 season, while New England has just one point to their name, losing their last two matches.
On paper, NYCFC has the ingredients to win. Maxi Moralez is still playing at a high level, Alonso Martínez continues to score goals as a striker, Thiago Martins is healthy and can start again where he strengthens the backline, and youngster Jonathan Shore has a chance to play another superb match to claim the starting role opened up by James Sands.
This should be another exciting fixture in the Bronx. Here is a preview of the game between NYCFC and the Revolution.
NYCFC vs New England Revolution preview
Date
NYCFC and New England will play each other on Saturday, March 15.
Time
The fixture is at 7:30 PM ET.
Location
The match will be at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.
How to watch
Supporters can watch the game on Apple TV via the MLS Season Pass.
Weather
It will be a little better weather-wise this weekend. The temperature will stay steady at around 48 degrees throughout the match, and it will be an overcast evening. There is a slight chance of rain, with the highest percentage being over 20%. Otherwise, the wind will not be as bad.
Injury report
The same three players are unavailable for Saturday’s match: Tayvon Gray (leg), Malachi Jones (leg), and Andrés Perea (hip) are all out. In addition, Kevin O’Toole is suspended due to the red card from last week.
Players to watch
Since O’Toole will be out for the game against New England, the NYCFC player to watch will be rookie Nico Cavallo. The defender had a fantastic preseason and filled in well for the starting left-back. It will be interesting to see whether Cavallo starts, and if he does, how he will play in MLS. It will also be a good opportunity for him to solidify that he can be the backup left-back.
If Leonardo Campana was not injured, then he would be the player to watch. Since he is out, the New England player to watch is Jackson Yueill. The former San Jose Earthquakes player shined while he was a part of the struggling California team and is one of the new Revolution players who should help the team finish a little higher in the standings. The versatile player can play all over the midfield and should contribute regardless of where he plays. Fans should watch to see whether he can aid his team in creating attacking chances while predominantly driving his side with his passing.
Prediction
After a solid win against Orlando City SC last week, NYCFC should continue their winning play against New England. The prediction is that they will win 3-1, with Moralez being a vital part of their offensive play. Shore will play another solid game and might find himself close to a goal.
