After a tough road trip that ended with an expected loss against Inter Miami CF, New York City FC will return home for a battle of the East Coast and West Coast.  Los Angeles FC is coming to Queens, and it has not been that long since the Pigeons played the California side.

The teams met in 2025, and the Boys in Blue fell on the road.  This time, they would love to return the favor and win on their home soil.  But it is questionable whether NYCFC can do just that.  The 2026 campaign has not gone well, and they have not had the best time at home.  The team only has four wins in the Big Apple, and they have none at Citi Field so far.  Including this weekend, the remainder of the home matches are at Citi Field.

Regardless of whether NYCFC makes the playoffs, as the chance of the postseason keeps slipping away, winning in Queens would be nice.  After all, the borough will become their permanent home next summer.  However, with the way the season has gone, the idea of winning feels nonexistent.

There is a lot of pressure to win.  Fans might show their unhappiness if the Pigeons lose at home again.  So, here is a preview of NYCFC’s game against LAFC.

NYCFC vs LAFC preview

Date

NYCFC and LAFC will play on Saturday, October 17.

Time

The game will begin at 7:30 PM ET.

Location

The fixture will take place at Citi Field in Flushing, Queens, New York.

How to watch

The match can be seen on Apple TV.

Weather

After a rainy and gloomy Friday, the skies will be clear when the game begins.  It will be 49 degrees, making this the coldest match in a while.  17 mph winds will not help, so fans will want to dress warmly.

Injury report

Drew Baiera (leg), Arnau Farnós (leg), Maxi Moralez (leg), Keaton Parks (leg), and Kai Trewin (leg) continue to be unavailable for the Boys in Blue.

Players to watch

Fans should watch Hannes Wolf and Bénie Traoré, as it will be interesting to see who gets the start as the left winger.  Traoré continues to struggle since joining Major League Soccer, so the argument stays the same that he should not be playing now.  Wolf has been hit-or-miss, but he has been the better option compared to the Ivorian.  Therefore, he should start, unless Pascal Jansen puts his trust in Malachi Jones and gives him the opportunity.

In addition, fans should pay attention to Denis Bouanga.  The forward continues to be one of the best attacking players in the league.  He has 24 goals in all competitions, and it does not matter where he plays.  His ability to play comfortably as a striker and a left winger highlights the danger that he can bring into a game.

Prediction

While the Queens team needs a win, the likelihood is slim.  Hence, the prediction is that NYCFC will lose 2-1.  A poor second half will see them drop points again and ultimately unofficially seal their fate by ending the season below the playoff line.
