After a terrible loss on Saturday against Chicago Fire FC, New York City FC has a tough follow-up match when they face Inter Miami CF. The Pigeons will head to the Herons’ new stadium for the first time, finally playing in Miami after the early years were spent in Fort Lauderdale. With the consistency of dropping points surrounding the Boys in Blue, the probability of coming away with a win seems far away.
However, like NYCFC, Miami has not had the best record at home. They have only five wins, and their 5-2-7 record provides a slight hope that maybe the visitors could possibly steal a point. Moreover, the Florida side has the recent edge over the Pigeons. Since 2023, they went from four draws in a row to three straight wins in Major League Soccer games, including the postseason thrashing last year.
On paper, fans likely will expect NYCFC to lose. But another loss will make it that much harder to make the MLS Cup Playoffs. That means danger is on the horizon. This might be the start of the end of the 2026 campaign. The Bronx side is talented, which makes this season frustrating, and ultimately, it stinks that the expectation now is that the team will drop points.
Still, there is a match that must be played. Here is a preview of NYCFC’s game with Inter Miami.
NYCFC vs Inter Miami preview
Date
NYCFC and Miami will battle it out on Wednesday, October 14.
Time
The game will begin at 7:30 PM ET.
Location
The match will take place at the brand new Nu Stadium in Miami, Florida.
How to watch
As always, the fixture can be seen on Apple TV.
Weather
As of now, it will be 83 degrees and partly cloudy. The teams should avoid the rain that is expected later that night, but toward the end of the game, there is over a 10% chance of precipitation. The humidity will be high at around 75%. It will not be the most comfortable evening, but at least it will feel like summer rather than winter.
Injury report
It feels like it has been forever since the injury report had only five players. Drew Baiera (leg), Arnau Farnós (leg), Maxi Moralez (leg), Keaton Parks (leg), and Kai Trewin (leg) remain unavailable for the Boys in Blue.
Players to watch
This time, NYCFC fans should watch Aiden O’Neill. The midfielder has been superb for the Queens side despite the rough season, and obviously, they will need all the help that they can get defensively. The Aussie could make a difference against the Herons if he plays at the highest level that he can play, which would match some of his performances at the World Cup.
On Miami, fans should pay attention to Dayne St. Clair. It has been an up-and-down year for the Canadian goalkeeper, and he allowed two goals in the Pigeons’ loss to the side back in March. But when St. Clair is on fire, he is on fire. It will be interesting to see which goalkeeper shows up at this meeting, because he could be the difference in whether the visitors have a chance of leaving with anything.
Prediction
It would be great to think that the Bronx side will secure a draw in Florida. However, and this might be the most controversial prediction, it is predicted that NYCFC will lose 4-1. The backline will not help Matt Freese’s confidence, but there will be a golazo or two that truly no keeper could save in MLS.
