It has been a crazy week for New York City FC.  They beat Atlanta United FC on Wednesday, ending the six-game winless drought at home and the six-game winless streak.  Then, the Sprint Season schedule was released on Thursday, creating excitement for the upcoming short campaign next year.  And now, the Pigeons will face CF Montréal in the final home game of the regular season.

NYCFC is not officially eliminated from the postseason.  However, it is highly unlikely that they will see any playing time beyond Decision Day, as the Boys in Blue must rely on other teams to lose in their games.  But if the home side loses their fifth straight match to the 15th-place Montréal, then they will be eliminated from playoff contention.  In addition, a draw with either the Columbus Crew winning or drawing their game, or the New York Red Bulls winning their game, will also see the Pigeons eliminated.

That is not all.  Even in a win, if the Columbus Crew and FC Cincinnati win their games, and then Orlando City SC draws or wins their match, then the Bronx side will be eliminated.  So, in other words, it does not look good.  But again, it is expected that they will not make the postseason.

Nevertheless, the goal should be to end the season in style.  NYCFC should aim to win their final home game, end the drought against CF Montréal, and celebrate the fans.  After all, the fans have been there all season, even through the tough losses and draws.  And then if they can win on Decision Day next week, then the Pigeons will go into the offseason with a three-game winning streak.  That is bound to provide confidence.  Still, they have to win this weekend, and Montréal, despite being the worst team in the Eastern Conference, seems to have their number.

Final notes

NYCFC is playing in the afternoon, and it is Halloween!  While the club does not seem to have any Halloween festivities planned, it is a somewhat good thing that the match is earlier in the day.  Some might not go to the game due to spooky day falling on a Saturday, but if fans do, they get to go to Fan Appreciation Day, and then they can head out to their Halloween festivities.
