After a tough but expected loss to the Kansas City Current, NJ/NY Gotham FC will return home and face Racing Louisville FC for the final regular-season match at Sports Illustrated Stadium. The Bats were in fourth place entering the weekend, but have currently moved into fifth place based on the live standings. As such, the pressure to win will be immense, not only due to the fact that it is the last home game of the season, but because the team cannot afford to lose.
Any points dropped will see Gotham FC fall down the standings. After a solid unbeaten streak, they do not want to be in the middle of a winless streak prior to the start of the playoffs. As it is known, the NJ/NY side was streaky this year, and they really need to enter the postseason in perfect form. More importantly, they need to score goals, for they have not scored in their last three games in all competitions.
In addition, the Bats continue to drop points at home. Their last match in New Jersey saw Gotham draw 0-0 with Seattle Reign FC. With the Current as the next fixture, that result was deemed disappointing and unacceptable. Hence, the ladies must redeem themselves and get back to winning ways.
A home playoff game in the quarterfinals is at stake. While fans know the NJ/NY side can win on the road in 2025, and while Sports Illustrated Stadium has not been the fortress that it was in 2024, playing at home in the playoffs can make a huge difference. Plus, when the postseason begins, Gotham FC can put the regular season to the side and start anew. But before then, they must win against Racing Louisville.

Final Notes
Sunday’s game will see Gotham FC honor former captain and current club ambassador, Ali Krieger. While the former defender has been honored before, it makes one wonder whether she will be leaving her role with the team. Still, it should be a good celebration. Plus, Broadway star Laura Benanti will sing the national anthem. So, fans should try to attend the match if they can, for the players will need their support.
