NJ/NY Gotham FC is still in first place and on the path to win the NWSL Shield. With a four-point advantage and just three games to go, the Bats need to win two more matches to guarantee the Shield.

In the meantime, the NWSL is currently in the middle of the international break, and the teams did not play this weekend. Multiple players have been away on international duty, including players like Jess Carter, Jaelin Howell, and Sam Kerr. But for those who are not away, ideally the break will provide a rest until the team goes full speed ahead for the rest of the season.

But there are some important things to cover, so here is a look at another Gotham FC news roundup.

Rose Lavelle meets her hero

On Saturday, the USWNT lost to Spain in an international friendly. But before the game, Rose Lavelle was able to meet one of her heroes. Law and Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay was at the game, and the Gotham FC star met her and gave her a USWNT jersey. Her excitement was vividly evident on her face.

Lavelle is a huge fan of the show, and the combo of one of the top midfielders and one of the best TV actresses was cool to see. Perhaps Hargitay can visit Gotham next and catch a game. After all, with the guaranteed home game in the quarterfinals, she will have at least two more chances this year.

Former Gotham FC player was honored

Former Gotham FC player Crystal Dunn was honored at that same USWNT game. Her club career might have been an up-and-down career, including her time with the NJ/NY side, but she is without a doubt a USWNT legend.

Her versatility and talent ultimately led her to play 160 games for the Stars and Stripes. It is sad that she retired this year, as she could have played a few more years for a club of her choice. Alas, it seems she was ready to hang up her boots just a few years ago when she left Gotham. It is good, though, that she was given her flowers after everything she gave to the USWNT.

The Gotham FC ACL curse continues

The Bats cannot get a break when it comes to players tearing their ACL. This time, Bruninha has sadly suffered a complete rupture of her ACL. While it was not with the club, this occurred the other day during Brazil's match against Argentina.

This is awful news, especially since the Brazilian missed a good portion of the start of Gotham FC's season earlier this year. Like Emily Sonnett, who ruptured her patellar tendon over the summer, there is now a big question of whether Bruninha will be healthy enough to play at the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Jaedyn Shaw left the USWNT U-23 team on Thursday due to a minor injury. Hopefully, she will be okay, and Jordynn Dudley will recover from her foot injury. Gotham FC cannot afford to lose any more players if they want to win the Shield.
