When Jordynn Dudley was signed during the offseason, the excitement from the supporters was immense. She was a top prospect who was a shining star in her collegiate career with Florida State University. Her 11 goals and 14 assists in the 2025 season made her well coveted, so the Bats were lucky to sign her.

It did not take long for the forward to contribute in the NWSL, too. She has turned into a fantastic option for Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós in the final third and has started the last three games. In total, she has started four matches and played in all eight fixtures. And now, the rookie has earned the honors of the NWSL Rookie of the Month for April.

Gotham FC could have another Rookie of the Year

It is not shocking that Dudley was the Rookie of the Month since she started two of the three games that Gotham FC played. Her impact in the few April fixtures was visible on the pitch. She had her first assist in the win over Bay FC. Then, after getting close multiple times, she scored her first goal for the club when the Bats beat Chicago Stars FC.

Of course, she added another assist in the Sunday win over Racing Louisville FC. Her ability to maneuver through defenders makes it easier to get forward and pick out teammates near the goal.

Moreover, Dudley is in the top 15 players in shots on target, with seven so far in the campaign. The winger's 11 shots reveal that she is picky in what she takes and works diligently to ensure she is a threat to the opposing goalkeeper.

Hence, it is not surprising that she was named the Rookie of the Month already based on her overall play. Truthfully, if Dudley continues to play the way she is playing, then she will undoubtedly be considered for the Rookie of the Year. Gotham's Lilly Reale received that honor last season, so that would mean that the team would have three Rookie of the Year awards in the past four seasons.

The Bats have been fortunate to have found and signed talented players from college, but the fact that they keep finding and developing stars is a good thing. It shows the team is not just a team of stars, but one that invests in the younger players. Plus, the possibility of having another player who could win the Rookie of the Year highlights how good Amorós is at developing players.

Of course, the season is long. Anything can happen along the way. But right now, Dudley deserves her NWSL Rookie of the Month honors, and she could be the Rookie of the Year at the end of the season.
