As is the case for any team in any offseason, this NJ/NY Gotham FC team has a number of new faces this year. And typically, one of the best and easiest ways for fans to identify these players is by the number on their back.

This will be even more important this season, given the large number of new signings for Gotham FC. Let's take a look at these new numbers for 2025.

Gotham FC's new numbers

Shelby Hogan, goalkeeper: Number 1

Acquired in the offseason via a trade with Portland Thorns FC, Shelby Hogan takes the number 1 jersey vacated by the retiring Michelle Betos. Previously wearing 18 while playing in Portland, Hogan reprises the number she wore in college with the Providence Friars.

Ryan Campbell, goalkeeper: Number 12

Ryan Campbell, the first of five college rookie signings this offseason, adopts the number 12 last worn by Kristen Edmonds in 2024. Collegiately, Campbell wore the number 1 for Stanford before transferring to UCLA and taking the number 0.

Lilly Reale, defender: Number 4

Another college free agent, Lilly Reale, continues to wear the number 4 she had collegiately with UCLA. She takes over for Abby Smith, who wore the number for two seasons before her offseason trade to the Houston Dash.

Jaelin Howell, midfielder: Number 7

Acquired in an offseason trade with Seattle Reign FC that saw Lynn Biyendolo and Cassie Miller go the other way, Jaelin Howell takes the number 7 shirt. This was vacated by McCall Zerboni, who departed the club in free agency this past offseason. Howell split her time in 2024 with two teams after a midseason trade saw her go from Racing Louisville FC to Seattle, where she wore 6 and 16, respectively.

Sofia Cook, midfielder: Number 21

After three seasons at UCLA, where she wore the number 9, Sofia Cook switches to 21 for her rookie season with Gotham FC. The number was last worn last season by Sam Hiatt, who left in free agency to the Portland Thorns.

Stella Nyamekye, midfielder: Number 90

The first player to wear number 90 in team history, Stella Nyamekye arrives stateside after starting her career in her native Ghana. During her exploits captaining the Ghanaian team at last year's U20 World Cup and the handful of senior-level international appearances she has made, she has worn numbers 9, 10, 14, 15, and 19.

Cece Kizer, forward: Number 5

Cece Kizer has officially switched to the number 5, which she had previously worn in her time with the Kansas City Current and in Houston. She takes over the number 5 from Kelley O'Hara, who retired this past offseason.

Sarah Schupansky, forward: Number 11

After wearing the number 5 while at the University of Pittsburgh, Sarah Schupansky takes over the number 11. This number was last worn by club legend Ali Krieger in the team's 2023 Championship-winning season.

McKenna "Mak" Whitham, forward: Number 17

Mak Whitham switches to 17 after making a few cameos in last season's Summer Cup, wearing the number 31. She takes over the number vacated by Delanie Sheehan, who signed with Houston in free agency this past offseason. Technically, she is a new player since her contract started this year, so 31 could have just been temporary.

Gabi Portilho, forward: Number 18

Gabi Portilho, Gotham's marquee signing, takes over the number 18. This number was last worn in 2024 by Yazmeen Ryan, who was traded to Houston this past offseason. Portilho continues with the number she wore with her previous club Corinthians of Brazil and with the Brazilian national team, where she won a silver medal at last summer's Olympic Games.

Khyah Harper, forward: Number 34

The last of Gotham FC's five college rookies, Khyah Harper, continues to wear the number 34 that she wore at the University of Minnesota. She also becomes the first player in team history to wear the number in an official match.
