Alexander Ring- Defender/ Midfielder

Former captain Alexander Ring spent a good amount of time with NYCFC, playing in four seasons during his first few years in MLS. He recorded 10 goals in 128 appearances, maintaining a consistent midfielder role while occasionally stepping into the backline. The versatile player is still playing in MLS today, for he is in his fourth season with Austin FC.

Tayvon Gray- Defender

As a Homegrown player, Tayvon Gray still has a lot to prove after making his MLS debut at the age of 18. He also won the MLS Cup that season, starting in the finals against Portland. Gray’s speed and defensive ability make him a fan favorite, which has also gifted him call-ups to the Jamaican national team. So far, he has made 104 appearances and his future is as bright as ever for the young 22-year-old.

Malte Amundsen- Defender

Despite a short tenure, Amundsen launched his MLS career with NYCFC and was one of the more talented defenders on the team. He made 71 appearances, having to share playing with Gudmundur Thórarinsson and later Kevin O'Toole. Amundsen is now a two-time MLS winner, having won one with NYCFC and the Columbus Crew last season.

Jack Harrison- Midfielder

Jack Harrison started his career in MLS with NYCFC as he was drafted number one overall in the 2016 draft by Chicago Fire FC. He was subsequently traded to the Pigeons. He scored 14 goals in 61 appearances over two seasons, completely changing the midfield and wings since his arrival. However, his skills and ability were far too superior for MLS play, resulting in a move to England, where he currently plays with Everton F.C. in the Premier League.

Héber- Forward

There was a point in time when Héber was one of NYCFC’s best goal-scorers. With 30 goals in 90 appearances, he ranks fourth all-time among goal-scorers, having scored 15 during the 2019 campaign. An ACL injury reduced his form, resorting to a bench role and eventually being sold to the Seattle Sounders. He is now playing in China with Cangzhou Mighty Lions F.C. and has returned to his scoring form, with eight in 23 appearances with the side.

Matt Freese- Goalkeeper

Though Matt Freese is new, he has been unbelievable in the net for NYCFC. The MLS All-Star snub has 99 saves in MLS, which is third most in the league, while also keeping five clean sheets. If the keeper can stay at the club for multiple seasons while gaining the same success as Johnson, he might become one of the top keepers to ever play for NYCFC if he keeps it up.
