New York City FC is back in action this weekend after the international break and will seek to reverse their recent misfortunes. They resumed Major League Soccer play after the Leagues Cup by drawing against Chicago Fire FC and losing terribly to the Columbus Crew. In those games, the Pigeons gave up later goals that led to the results.
Therefore, NYCFC will try to win a rare road game when they travel to Washington, D.C. to face D.C. United. The two teams met earlier this year in Queens and the Pigeons won 2-0. In the last five games between them, the Boys in Blue are 3-2-0. The games can easily be tight, so this will be a difficult challenge. The road has been difficult over the last few years, but fans know they can win away from home. The team did win three earlier in the season, but that was during the best stretch.
Regardless, D.C. has won four of their last five MLS fixtures, which were all teams below seventh place in their respective conference. The home team also sits in ninth place with 32 points. This means NYCFC is only seven points ahead in the standings. More importantly, the team from Queens has to deal with the current Golden Boot leader, Christian Benteke. The striker has 18 goals and will be extremely threatening in the upcoming match.
If NYCFC wants to win, then they must shut Benteke down. They also cannot give up late goals again. With seven games to go, this road match is critical. The Pigeons need to find a way to leave with all three points.

Final Notes
NYCFC received some good news on Thursday. Nick Cushing finally announced that Matt Freese has an MCL sprain, and should be good to go in a week or two. Many fans were worried the goalkeeper would miss the rest of the season, but thankfully that is not the case.
