1. Maxime Chanot will solidify his New York City FC legend status

New York City FC fans adore Maxime Chanot.  From his work rate on the field, and then to his love and passion for the team, there is no question that he is beloved throughout the club.

Now, he is the true veteran.  He is the last player from 2016, and the longest serving player on the roster.  He has always been a leader, but this year, he is expected to wear the Captain’s armband, and officially lead the squad.

That is why the final prediction is that Chanot will solidify his legend status in 2023.  In some ways, he is already considered to be a legend, or at least he is on the way.  He was a part of the 2021 MLS Cup Championship side, and he has literally left his blood, sweat, and tears on the pitch for his teammates and the supporters.  He is not afraid to take risks, and this will continue to do so in the upcoming season.

Yet, without his partner in crime, Callens, he will have to adjust and work with Thiago Martins.  But, despite his fellow center-back’s Designated Player status, Chanot is the star in the backline.  He knows he has to step up, and it is expected he will.  That is why fans, who already love him, will love him even more.  It will not be surprising if he becomes the savior in a few games during the season, and ends up as the NYCFC Defender of the Year.

But, Chanot is already a talented defender.  He rarely makes mistakes, and hopefully his leadership, soccer intelligence, and skill will allow and help Martins have a much better season.  He can also help the young defenders within the squad, and possibly the next generation coming up.

In the eyes of many, Chanot is a club legend.  This season, he has an opportunity to be the star of the show, and solidify that status for New York City FC.
