The last time NJ/NY Gotham FC and San Diego Wave FC played one another was during the NWSL Challenge Cup to open up the NWSL season. Unfortunately, the Bats fell 1-0 after a late goal. Therefore, they will seek to take revenge on the home side and earn the team’s third win in a row after beating the Houston Dash and North Carolina Courage.
Similar to Gotham, the Wave is having an average start to the season. The two teams are separated by a mere point, for the NJ/NY team sits in seventh place with 11 points while the California side is in eighth place with 10. Both have three wins despite having teams that can compete for the top of the standings. There are injuries, but the rosters should be doing better in the 2024 season.
Meanwhile, the two are both coming off wins from Wednesday. Again, Gotham FC beat the Dash while the Wave secured three points from Utah Royals FC. San Diego played that game at home and they will again not have to travel, subsequently having that slight advantage over Gotham. At the same time, the record speaks for itself, where the California team has won all five matches played between the teams.
Will Gotham FC grab the first win against the Wave? Or will their goal-scoring struggles lead them to lose again? Defensively, they can keep a clean sheet, but no mistakes can be made in the backline.

Final Notes
Gotham FC had a really good game against Houston. If the team can repeat that performance, then perhaps they can at least leave San Diego with a point. It also will depend on who is available to play for both teams. Ideally, Rose Lavelle will play more minutes while Esther González finally scores again.
