Gotham FC vs Chelsea F.C. Women: How to watch, time, and more of the friendly
- Gotham FC will play Chelsea F.C. Women in a friendly
- Here is how to watch, the time, and more
The NWSL season will resume on August 24, but before then, NJ/NY Gotham FC will play a friendly game. The Bats will face off against Chelsea F.C. Women in a battle of champions. Of course, the NWSL team won the 2023 NWSL Championship while Chelsea won the Women’s Super League last season.
The friendly comes after a successful summer so far for the Gotham ladies. Seven of them won medals in the Paris Olympics, with six golds for the USWNT and a bronze for Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger. In addition, the NJ/NY team booked a place in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup final after beating Angel City FC. Hence, there is hope the success will continue and a win is on the horizon.
Although, it is unknown whether any of those who were away for the Olympics will dress for the friendly. Still, it would be a reunion for Berger and Jess Carter, who was recently signed this summer. The two played with Chelsea for many years, specifically under Emma Hayes. It would not be shocking for the USWNT coach to show up to the match either. This would give her a chance to see some of her former players and possibly watch a few of the USWNT ladies.
While Gotham FC would love to win, there was no question that the team needs to play safely. This is a friendly after all, and the Bats could use some luck on the injury front. No matter what, this is expected to be an entertaining game that supporters could attend or watch on TV.

Final Notes
The friendly will be another good test for the Gotham FC players. It will also allow Juan Carlos Amorós to again look at some of his players who do not normally start. The Summer Cup already revealed just how great the roster’s depth is. As such, it will be interesting to see how everyone does against a Chelsea team in preseason.
