On Friday, NJ/NY Gotham FC beat C.D. Guadalajara Femenil, or Chivas, in the final game of the group round in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup. The win booked the team’s spot in the semifinals after scoring three goals for the first time in the 2024 season.
Now, the Bats will face Angel City FC and try to make the finals, which will take place in the fall. If Katie Stengel and Ella Stevens can repeat their performances against Chivas, then there is a big chance that they can beat the California team for the third time this season. They recently beat them 2-1 before the NWSL break for the Olympics and the Summer Cup.
This would also be another great match to prove how great Gotham FC’s roster is. Many of their starters are still in Paris, but the players who have been playing in the Summer Cup have been superb. Some of them are starters, but others might be making a name for themselves.
The early evening match is almost here. Here is a preview of the game between Gotham FC and Angel City FC.
Date
Gotham FC and Angel City FC will play one another on Tuesday, August 6.
Time
The game is at 5:00 PM ET.
Location
The fixture is at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
How to watch
Fans can watch the fixture on CBS Sports Network and Paramount+.
Weather
It will be a beautiful evening for soccer. It will be partly sunny and around 80 degrees. There is no chance of rain at this time.
Injury Report
Midge Purce (knee) is out for the year while Abby Smith (lower leg) remains on the season-ending injury list (lower leg).
The same players as the previous game are out: Mandy Freeman (ankle), Esther González (foot), Svava Guðmundsdóttir (excused absence), and Kelley O'Hara (knee). Meanwhile, Stevens (thigh) is questionable.
In addition, Ann-Katrin Berger, Tierna Davidson, Crystal Dunn, Rose Lavelle, Jenna Nighswonger, Emily Sonnett, and Lynn Williams are away with their national teams at the Olympics.
Players to watch
Gotham FC fans should again watch Stevens. The forward scored once and assisted twice in the fixture against Chivas. There was an injury concern toward the end when she was taken off, so fans will also want to see whether she starts. If she does, then will she provide a similar performance?
Supporters should also watch Claire Emslie on Angel City. The forward has six goals in the NWSL and one in the Summer Cup. She is a talented forward who will be the biggest threat to the NJ/NY team. She scored in the last match the two teams played, so she is someone to pay attention to.
Prediction
Since Gotham FC has beaten Angel City FC twice this season, and since the ladies seem to be finding their scoring boots in the Summer Cup, this is the perfect time for a positive prediction. The Bats will win 2-0, dominating the possession. They will move on to the finals this fall.
