Seven NJ/NY Gotham FC players were missing due to the Olympics during the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup group round. The Bats had a tough group that had the Washington Spirit, which many would have thought they would win and move on to the semifinals. Instead, the NJ/NY team had other ideas, winning the group and securing a semifinal spot after beating C.D. Guadalajara Femenil.
As a result, they will face Angel City FC in the semifinals. The Bats beat the California team before the start of the Summer Cup and NWSL pause for the Olympics. At this time, they will be seeking to win their third match in a row against their opponents this year. The difference this time around is that the game will be at a neutral site in Kansas City, rather than home or away.
Also, there is hope that Gotham FC finally found their scoring boots after the 3-0 win in their last game. Katie Stengel scored twice and Ella Stevens scored the other in what was an exciting fixture to watch. They finally capitalized on shots after an offensive match against Washington, but they could not find a goal in open play. Ideally, this will spark a win against Angel City.
