Gotham FC vs Angel City FC: How to watch, time, and more of the clash in California

The final game before the NWSL break is almost here, and NJ/NY Gotham FC will try to win on the road to finish out this part of the season.  They almost won last week, but a late own goal saw Seattle Reign FC steal a point at Red Bull Arena.  So, the desire to win will be extremely high.  They will have to do it at a hostile BMO Stadium, for the fans of Angel City FC are some of the best in the league.

Gotham FC already defeated Angel City at home back on June 8.  Crystal Dunn and Rose Lavelle scored in the 2-1 win that saw the Bats dominate the fixture.  Will they repeat the home success on the road?  It is possible since the California team is struggling this season.  They sit in 11th place and have a 4-8-3 record, losing their last two matches.

Moreover, the Bats remain one of the best defensive teams in the NWSL.  Ann-Katrin Berger is terrific between the sticks while the center-back partnership of Tierna Davidson and Emily Sonnett has been a dream.  Sam Hiatt also fills in well when either is not available.  While there is rotation as of late at the right-back spot, everyone who steps in does a solid job.  And of course, there is a reason Jenna Nighswonger won Rookie of the Year in 2023.

Nevertheless, Gotham FC has to score more goals.  Sometimes, like the Seattle match, the low-scoring fixtures are not enough even with great defense.  This needs to be a focus against Angel City, for the NJ/NY side does not want to enter the NWSL Olympic break on a three-game winless streak.

Final Notes

This will be the last match with Berger, Davidson, Dunn, Lavelle, Nighswonger, Sonnett, and Lynn Williams until late August.  The seven players will be in Paris for the Summer Olympics.
