On Tuesday, NJ/NY Gotham FC had good news for the supporters. The club announced that their star forward, Lynn Williams, has signed a new multi-year contract with the club. This extension will keep the American international with the team until 2025.

Williams had only joined Gotham FC this season via a trade with the Kansas City Current. After missing the majority of the 2022 season due to injury, she has been fantastic for the club. She has six goals in 12 regular season appearances, and has played every single minute.

After a terrible 2022 season that saw the team finish in last place, the adding of Williams to the team, as well as other changes, has helped Gotham FC in 2023. At this moment, they sit in sixth place, and are clearly fighting for an opportunity to make the playoffs this year. They also sit in second place in Group A in the NWSL Challenge Cup, with two of six matches played. The 30 year-old has scored in both of those fixtures, bringing her overall season total to eight.

Gotham FC's head coach, Juan Carlos Amorós, recognizes the importance of having Williams in the squad.

"Lynn Williams is an incredibly talented player who has been a key contributor to the overall success of the team this season. She plays any role that is needed at the time, whether that means scoring goals, tracking back on defense, or being a positive voice in the locker room. She represents the values that we have as a club, and is an example for our younger players."

At the same time, Williams is easily making a case for her to be a part of the United States Women's National Team World Cup squad. Her form this year would make it criminal for her to be excluded. As a result, that would mean she would miss some games with Gotham FC.

Nonetheless, Williams deserves to be with the national team. She now has a few more years to shine for NJ/NY Gotham FC thanks to her new contract.
