NJ/NY Gotham FC had a pretty good June when looking at things in the long run. While the unbeaten run was broken in the loss to the Washington Spirit, the ladies still went 3-1-1 to take ten points out of 15. They almost had one more win, but Seattle Reign FC had other ideas in the dying moments of Sunday's game.
With one NWSL match left before the Olympic ladies leave and the NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup, Gotham FC only has three games in July. This will allow for a slight break before the summer tournament. This will also give Juan Carlos Amorós time to tinker with his Starting XI. Six players will be gone for the group stage of the tournament, so he can use this time to experiment. More importantly, this is the perfect time for players on the injury list to get healthy before the NWSL resumes in late August.
The rest of the summer's schedule is an interesting one. Here is a look at Gotham FC's games in July.
Gotham FC's July 2024 schedule
Saturday, July 6: Gotham FC vs Angel City FC
Gotham FC will play their last NWSL fixture before the Olympic break on the road against Angel City FC. This will be a late match for those on the East Coast, but it should be a good one. The LA team always has a great crowd. They also have talented forwards like Sydney Leroux and Claire Emslie. However, Angel City is struggling this season as they sit in 11th place. Moreover, Gotham has already beaten the California team this year. This could easily end in another road win.
Saturday, July 20: Gotham FC vs Chicago Red Stars
After a little break, Gotham FC will play their first match of the group round in the NWSL x La Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup. They will first play the Chicago Red Stars on the road. The Bats already beat the team in the regular season in a fixture where Lynn Williams became the all-time NWSL goal-scorer. However, this will be an interesting game since this will be the first fixture without stars like Rose Lavelle, Emily Sonnett, and Williams, for six players will be in Paris for the Olympics. There is still a chance for other players to be named to their Olympic teams.
Sunday, July 28: Gotham FC vs Washington Spirit
The second game of the Summer Cup will be against the Washington Spirit. The D.C. team beat them twice in the NWSL and was the only team that scored two goals against the Gotham FC defense. This will be the most difficult match in July and will be a big test for the Bats who do not usually start. Moreover, this will be considered a home game, for it will be a special one at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. It will be intriguing to see what the attendance will be.
