New York City FC has a lot to be proud of as the Major League Soccer regular season inches closer to the end.  The team is in third place, and they have 17 wins, which is the most since they had 18 in 2019.  Sure, they have had some tough losses, but they have also had some incredible wins.  The Bronx side proved they can compete with some of the best teams in the league, and now they will face the Philadelphia Union, which is the best team with 63 points.

In the past, the road games against the Union have been challenging.  But last year, NYCFC won in a match that went viral due to a raccoon on the pitch.  While nobody should expect another raccoon, unless someone brings a stuffed animal, they should expect a wild match.  Both teams have aspirations they would like to reach.  Philadelphia is trying to secure the Supporters’ Shield.  Then, the Boys in Blue want to finish the season in the top four.

Sure, NYCFC has done surprisingly well on the road in 2025, for the team has a 6-5-5 record.  They had incredible wins against FC Cincinnati and Orlando City SC.  Of course, the bonkers Hudson River Derby might be the best road win of the year.  Regardless, they know, despite previous history, that they can win away from home against the Union.

Meanwhile, there is some good news.  Matt Freese, who went off injured in the derby, is available for this weekend’s game.  One should expect him to play.  Plus, Alonso Martínez is also ready to go.  Whether he can start for NYCFC is another question.
