The last time New York City FC played FC Cincinnati, they beat them 3-2 for the first time since 2021. Despite the Bronx team’s domination during the first meetings, the last couple of years have belonged to the Ohio side. While the Pigeons have finally won again, there is no question the road woes cause concerns as they begin the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Of course, NYCFC will face Cincinnati on the road. The Round One Best-of-3 series means there will be a home match at Citi Field, but they must first survive TQL Stadium. It is not an easy stadium to play in, for the fans act as the twelfth player.
There is a little more hope with the playoffs compared to the summertime. NYCFC finally ended their winless streak in their win against the New York Red Bulls. They won three in a row before unfortunately losing their Decision Day game on the road against CF Montréal. Hence, the concerns about playing on the road are back. At the same time, hope is not completely lost.
Moreover, supporters can be excited that the team is back in the playoffs after a year’s absence. So, here is a preview of the playoff match between NYCFC and FC Cincinnati.
Date
NYCFC and FC Cincinnati will play one another on Monday, October 28.
Time
The match is at 6:45 PM ET.
Location
The game is at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
How to watch
Fans can watch the fixture on Apple TV via the MLS Season Pass. This will be available for free. Additionally, the game can be seen on FS1.
Weather
It will be another decent evening for a game. The temperature will be about 65 degrees and it will be partly cloudy. The humidity will be about 60% but at least it should not rain.
Injury report
Malachi Jones (leg) continues to be out for NYCFC. Otherwise, everyone else will be available.
Players to watch
NYCFC supporters should watch James Sands. The backline will need all of the help they can get. Therefore, the midfielder’s defensive abilities must be perfect. A fantastic performance by Sands can help the rest of the defense and will ease the pressure on them as well.
On Cincinnati, Luciano Acosta is obviously the player to watch. He is constantly a threat in the attack and is also one of the best players in Major League Soccer. He scored in the last match against the Pigeons and has been a menace in their side for many years. His 14 goals and 16 assists in the regular season alone are reason enough to focus on stopping him.
Prediction
As much as it would be great for the Boys in Blue to win, they are on the road against a team they have struggled against as of late. While it is thought they will force a third game, NYCFC will lose to FC Cincinnati 1-0. The goal will not be because of a mistake, but rather one that nobody will save. Otherwise, both teams will play well.
