New York City FC has been known for their success at home over the years.  Yankee Stadium was often a fortress where stealing three points from the Boys in Blue was a rare thing.  However, this season, they have already lost two of four games played in the Bronx.

Therefore, the Pigeons will try to not lose three in a row at Yankee Stadium when they face Chicago Fire FC.  They have won all of their matches at Citi Field, but the majority of 2025’s home fixtures are in the Bronx.  That is why it is vital to get back on track and beat Chicago at their main home venue.

To do that, NYCFC must begin to be consistent with their play.  That has hurt them throughout the season, and in some ways, they have been lucky with some of their wins, like the one against the Philadelphia Union.  But lucky wins are better than not winning at all.  Plus, they have won matches like the Hudson River Derby win, which highlighted some of their strengths in the attack.  If the Bronx side can find the back of the net but also defend well, then they should beat Chicago at home.

So, let’s take a look at the next preview of NYCFC’s game against Chicago Fire FC.

NYCFC vs Chicago Fire FC preview

Date

NYCFC and the Chicago Fire will face off on Sunday, May 25.

Time

The fixture will start at 3:00 PM ET.

Location

The game will be played at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

How to watch

Fans can watch the match on the MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.

Weather

Ideally, supporters will attend the match due to the Memorial Day weekend and great weather.  It will be mostly cloudy but there is no chance of rain.  It will not be too cold or hot, for it will be 67 degrees with 13 mph winds.

Injury report

Malachi Jones (leg), Kevin O’Toole (leg), and Andrés Perea (leg) are unavailable for the clash against Chicago.  Keaton Parks is no longer listed.

Players to watch

Alonso Martínez is the player to watch for NYCFC.  The forward finally scored again against the New York Red Bulls last week and will ideally continue to score.  There is no question that the Pigeons are better off when he scores.  Of course, others must find the back of the net as well.  But if the Costa Rican performs well, then NYCFC has a stronger chance of winning.

Fans should also watch Hugo Cuypers.  Chicago’s striker, who has eight goals this season, is the most threatening player who will be on the pitch.  Will the Bronx team stop him from finding the back of the net?  This is something to pay attention to.

Prediction

After the Hudson River Derby, NYCFC should continue to get back on track for their home games.  That is why it is predicted that the Pigeons will win 2-1 and will outplay the Fire.
