Well, the week has come and gone where New York City FC celebrated their great win over Toronto FC. The Boys in Blue scored some brilliant goals against the Reds, but that celebratory joy cannot last. The reason is that the team is heading out on a four-game road trip in Major League Soccer. The first stop will be in North Carolina to face Charlotte FC for the first time in 2025.
Since the other blue team entered the league, they have had NYCFC’s number. They have beaten the Bronx side four times out of six, with the other games ending in a draw and a win for the Pigeons. As such, this will be a challenging match based on history alone. Plus, and sorry for repeating this, the road is not an easy place for the Boys in Blue.
Now, Charlotte is winless in their last four matches, losing three times and drawing in their most recent game against Orlando City SC. NYCFC might try to take advantage of their recent streak. But the Crown does well at home. They have a 6-2-1 record at Bank of America Stadium, which has helped them this season. They still sit in tenth place entering the weekend, but they only have five fewer points compared to NYCFC.
Speaking about the Pigeons, they would like to start the road trip in a positive manner. Whether that happens depends on which team shows up. Will it be the team that fails to beat those they should beat and fails to score, as they did recently against CF Montréal? Or will it be the team that dominated Atlanta United FC and Toronto? Ideally, the latter NYCFC will show up.

Final Notes
If there is one good thing about this summer road trip, then it is that Matt Freese is back! He was with the USMNT in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which they sadly lost to Mexico in the finals. But NYCFC fans can celebrate that their starting goalkeeper will be between the sticks once again.
