It is starting to become an ugly trend that fans are asking New York City FC for three points before the last few games.  The Pigeons are winless in their last five Major League Soccer matches after their terrible draw with FC Cincinnati.  They were up 4-2, but allowed two goals in stoppage time to throw the three points out the window.  It does not get easier now that they head out on the road to face CF Montréal.

Now, some might question how this matchup can be challenging.  The answer is simple: after dominating the series for so many years, the Canadian side has now beaten NYCFC in the last three meetings.  The history went out the window, and it did not matter that the Bronx team was stronger on paper.  Between the recent matches in the 2026 season and the recent meetings with Montréal, it is difficult to have any confidence entering the weekend.

But the players know what they are capable of.  This is a team that should at least be 5-3-1, but two draws occurred due to late goals allowed.  And again, they should win the next match, but can they break the winless streak in MLS and the losing streak against Montréal?

It is difficult to be positive, but there is a game to prepare for.  Here is a preview of NYCFC’s match against Le CFM.

NYCFC vs CF Montréal preview

Date

NYCFC will play CF Montréal on Saturday, April 25.

Time

The game will begin at 2:30 PM ET.

Location

The meeting will take place at Saputo Stadium in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

How to watch

Fans can watch the match on Apple TV.

Weather

It will be a nice, but cool spring afternoon in Montréal.  It will be about 54 degrees and partly cloudy.  The humidity will be below 40%, and there is no chance of rain.  It is somewhat good that the Pigeons are on the road, for the New York City tri-state area will be dealing with rain.

Injury report

Drew Baiera (leg), Alonso Martínez (leg), Max Murray (leg), and Hannes Wolf (leg) are all missing for the matchup.  The good news is that Andrés Perea is no longer on the list.

Players to watch

After giving up the penalty kick in stoppage time against Cincinnati, NYCFC fans should watch Kevin O’Toole.  How will he rebound after that blunder that saw the three points vanish?  Sure, he was not alone in causing he draw, but he likely felt it was his fault.  This would be a good fixture for the defender to remind everyone that he is a great left-back.  Some of his performances have been a little lackluster this year, so he will need to be at his best.

Supporters should also watch Prince Owusu on CF Montréal.  The team might be 2-6-0, but the forward has been a bright light with his five goals.  Shutting him down will give the Bronx side one less threat to deal with.

Prediction

While it would be great to end the winless streak, the midweek draw will haunt the Boys in Blue.  Therefore, they will end the losing streak against Montréal, but NYCFC will share the points in a 1-1 draw to continue the winless streak.  Talles Magno, if he starts, will score.  If not, then Maxi Moralez will find the back of the net.
