New York City FC fans are likely still pleased with last weekend’s result. The Pigeons ended a seven-game winless streak in Major League Soccer, beating Real Salt Lake on the road. Now, they will try to earn three points again in what might be an extremely important Hudson River Derby. The New York Red Bulls, or Red Bull New York, whichever the name might be, will come to Yankee Stadium for the final derby of the season.

Right now, NYCFC is currently in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 32 points, while the red team is in tenth place with 30 points. With both sides desperate for three points, whoever wins this match might finish above the other in the standings. In other words, there is a major possibility that this win could be the difference between one team finishing in a playoff position.

Of course, that would mean that the Bronx side did not finish the remainder of the regular season in an extremely positive way. The Boys in Blue need to win as many games as possible, and the derby is one game where they do not want to drop any points. Plus, they are at home, and they will want to lift the Hudson River Derby trophy in front of their fans.

NYCFC already beat the Red Bulls once this year in the U.S. Open Cup. But in MLS, they shared the points over in New Jersey. However, that was a comeback draw. Still, between the results against RBNY and the win last weekend, the Pigeons should be confident they can come away with all three points.
