It is another short turnaround as New York City FC will play a midweek game when they take on FC Cincinnati. The Boys in Blue will attempt to get a much-needed road win after they failed to win at home over the weekend. They had the lead at halftime but gave up three goals in the second half, losing 3-2 to the Philadelphia Union. It was another one of those awful games where points were dropped when that should not have been the case.
Despite the injuries, NYCFC has the talent to be a little better. But the problem is that some of these players are young and still need more experience. Max Murray is a great example, as he has played well with a few mistakes since he made his first start in the Leagues Cup. But that changed in the second half against the Union, as he played his worst half so far.
Therefore, it might be smart to go with the lineup that has as many veterans as possible. And this is not about age, but rather about experience. After all, Murray is older than players like Agustín Ojeda and Jonathan Shore. FC Cincinnati will not be an easy match, and the team needs experience. The Ohio side is in sixth place, one place higher than the Pigeons.
Moreover, while NYCFC won in Cincinnati last season, the game itself was still extremely difficult. And fans will not forget about the match from earlier in 2026, when the Pigeons were up 4-2 and shared the points in a 4-4 draw. That blunder is likely to haunt everyone. If the Bronx side wants to leave with any points, the best available must play.

The good news is that Nicolás Fernández Mercau is back from his suspension. Hopefully, this will help NYCFC, but he can only do so much. Silly mistakes or losing the ball could still lead to goals for the opposition.
